Welcome to the ACC Community. Let’s share the food with generosity and help reducing food waste together!

ABOUT US

The Assiniboine Community College (ACC) community fridge campus project has been created to help reduce food waste and food insecurity within our community. Food waste is a growing environmental concern as the decomposition process release methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The ACC community fridge project is a small-scale solution to help combat these two issues. There are two community fridges now, one is located at ACC Victoria East Campus in the Student Association Lounge, and another one is located at North Hill Campus. These locations are a judgment-free zone where all students can now access fresh and healthy food.

Adequate nutrition plays an important role in allowing students to come to classes prepared to focus and learn. The stress of food insecurity can have a detrimental impact on one’s ability to excel in all other areas of life and may lead to increased absenteeism. This project works towards these shared goals to reduce food insecurity on campus by ensuring students have free access to fresh and healthy food. This project and ACC both aim to promote academic success and an overall positive college experience for students.
